We drove from Waterford to Cork via Bunmahon and Midleton. Rain and cold winds inhibited what we were able to do.
We visited the Geo-science UNESCO supported centre at Bunmahon which had a small museum. The focus was on the Copper mining along the coast near there and included a video on the life of the people who worked in the mines – a very hard life. We did stop off at the ruins of one mine, nearby.
The coast was very attractive and we walked a little way to enjoy the view.
The Jameson whiskey distillery showing the original technology used in this industry was the main reason for the stop at Midleton. I preferred the sample at Kilbeggan distillery. As with the Kilbeggan site, there was a working waterwheel on show, which had once been in use to drive machinery here.
Cork traffic was a little challenging. Fortunately, they had an efficient bus system near where we were staying – opposite the University.
